Whisky Club: Blend Blend Blend!
Tue 4 Mar 2025, 19:30 - 21:00
£20.00
Join Kenneth to explore the world of blended whisky.
Nowadays, whisky seems to be synonymous with “single malt” (at least it happens in our shop). However, when we look into the global sales figure, it is not the same case.
According to Malt Whisky Year Book 2025, among the “Top 30 Whiskies Of The World” (by sales in 2023), none of them are single malt – while blended whiskies contribute most of the numbers, followed by Tennessee whiskey, American bourbon, and Canadian whisky.
Since scotch whiskies are sold across the globe, they have always been “blended”, for example, Johnnie Walker, Famous Grouse, Ballantine’s, and Chivas Regal. People appreciate them for their smoothness, complexity, and consistency. There have been some iconic blended scotch whiskies such as Blue Label and Royal Salute.
Indeed, the rise of Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been most prominent in the past twenty years. More and more people start to explore the characters and styles of each whisky distillery. Meanwhile, given the market situation today, some whisky enthusiasts start looking for blended malt whiskies and old bottlings of blended scotch whiskies for their better values and quality*.
(*contain whiskies distilled in older days and/or from closed distilleries)
In the upcoming Whisky Club Tasting: Blend Blend Blend, we are going to take a journey from 1970s blended scotch*, to modern examples of great values blended malt whiskies, and a very special “cask strength” version of an iconic scotch whisky as well.
